Beckham influence to have Newcastle trump Man Utd for Hollywood role

David Beckham's role in the new Hollywood trilogy, 'Goal', is expected to see Newcastle United win the battle to be the first film's backdrop.

Real Madrid midfielder Beckham is in talks with Goal's producers and his association with Adidas is set to have Newcastle see off Nike-sponsored Manchester United and Umbro's Chelsea to win the right to be used in the opening film.

"They are close to agreeing a deal with Beckham," a source close to the production team told the Guardian.

The first film will focus on a young American's move to the Premiership, with the producers still to decide which club the player will join.

Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd flew to Los Angeles for discussions in the summer and Beckham's addition should see the Magpies - and Adidas - clinch the deal.

Indeed, Adidas' involvement is likely to see the trilogy's star move from Newcastle to Real Madrid in the second episode.
