Beckham apologises to new Real Madrid teammates

David Beckham has apologized to his new Real Madrid teammates for taking some of the focus away from their championship tilt.

Real players are upset that while they are on the verge of lifting the Liga title, Spain's focus is on Beckham's stunning transfer from Manchester United.

In Japan for a promotional visit, Beckham said yesterday: "I want to apologise to the players because all this has not been caused by me."

"I did not want to detract from them fighting for the league. I wish them good luck."

He added, "Of course I would have been happier if the transfer had been done differently."

"I think things went on that I wouldn't have been happy about."

"But I don't want to talk about that side of it. I'm a Real Madrid player now and I'm looking forward to it."
