Beckham and co. face Real fitness tests on Thursday

David Beckham and his new Real Madrid team mates will undergo fitness tests when they report back for pre-season duty with the Spanish champions on Thursday.

The first-team squad, including new signing Beckham and new Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz, will meet up at the club's training ground at 0700 GMT on Thursday.

After the fitness tests the squad will fly out to China for the first leg of their tour of the Far East, departing Madrid's Barajas airport at 1500 GMT.

Beckham, who signed for Real Madrid from Manchester United at the start of July in a deal worth up to 35 million euros, is the club's only reinforcement for the new season.

Real had hoped to sign a new centre back to replace departing captain Fernando Hierro but they pulled out of a deal to sign the Argentine Gabriel Milito this week after doubts emerged about his fitness.

The other new face at the club will be Queiroz, who was also recruited from Manchester United, where he was assistant coach to Alex Ferguson.

Queiroz replaces Vicente del Bosque, who was discarded at the end of last season despite guiding the side to the league title.
