Bayern trail Real in Champions' League betting

Champions' League winners Bayern Munich have been installed as 13/2 joint-second favourites for next season's competition, alongside Manchester United and Roma. Spanish giants Real Madrid are the outright favourites at 4/1.

Bayern comfortably defeated Real in the Champions' League semi-finals last May, having desposed of United a fortnight previously. But British bookies William Hill believe Real coach Vicente del Bosque can recapture the trophy his club won for a record eighth time in 2000.

United were disappointing in Europe last season, with captain Roy Keane suggesting the team needed rebuilding in order to challenge again. But manager Sir Alex Ferguson will want to go out with a bang in his final season at Old Trafford – and the Reds' price reflects that.

Barcelona, who scraped into the competition on Sunday night with a last-gasp win over Valencia, are priced at 10/1, while Uefa Cup winners Liverpool and their English counterparts Arsenal are available at 16/1.
