Bayern reject Real Madrid’s €65m bid for David Alaba

Bayern Munich have rejected an offer of €65 million from Real Madrid for Austrian defender David Alaba, Spanish outlet AS claims.

They report that Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge will only think about accepting €80 million for the left back. If Real Madrid paid the asking price, it would make Alaba the most expensive defender in the world and the seventh biggest transfer fee paid for a player.

This summer has already seen two new stars move for massive sums. Gonzalo Higuain joined Juventus from Napoli for around £71.5, while Manchester United broke the transfer record by buying Paul Pogba for €105 million.

Alaba renewed his contract with the Bavarians earlier this year, which will run at least to the end of the 2020/21 season. The 24-year-old has been used as a centre back for Bayern last season after injuries, while he also plays in a defensive midfield role for Austria.

The only transfer Real Madrid have made this season is buying back Alvaro Morata from Juventus. Bayern Munich on the other hand have signed both Mats Hummels from Borussia Dortmund and Renato Sanches from Benfica.
