Bayern Munich are reportedly targeting Real Madrid and Spain right-back Dani Carvajal for next season, with the German champions expected to bid €30 million for his services, as reported by AS.
It’s said that Carvajal has never raised the possibility of leaving Los Blancos, but with Danilo now challenging him for a regular starting place in their side, Bayern could swoop for the 23-year-old.
Since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2013, Carvajal has established himself as Real’s first-choice right-back. In the last two La Liga seasons he’s made 31 and 30 appearances respectively, delivering consistent and reliable performances.
His good form in the 2013/14 season – when Madrid won the Champions League and Copa del Rey – saw him included in Spain’s provisional 2014 World Cup squad.
Although he didn’t make the final cut, he’s gone on to represent his country on five occasions since.
He hasn’t played for Los Blancos or Spain since the draw with cross-city rivals Atletico Madrid earlier in the month, and Danilo has provided him with genuine competition this season; the former has started five league games compared to the latter’s four.
Madrid signed Danilo from Porto in the summer in a deal worth €31.5 million (as reported by UEFA’s official website), a sign that they weren’t going to let Carvajal rest on his laurels.
Real are top of La Liga under Rafa Benitez, and face Las Palmas this weekend. As for Bayern, they too are top of their respective league, sitting seven points clear of second-placed Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.
