Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer suffers broken foot in Real Madrid defeat

Bayern Munich have been handed more devastating news, after revealing today that Manuel Neuer suffered a fractured foot in the defeat to Real Madrid on Tuesday.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick as Champions League holders Real Madrid controversially overcame Bayern Munich in extra time to reach the semi-finals.

Just when the pain of the result could not get any worse for Bayern, the club revealed on Wednesday morning that Neuer had suffered the injury and was set for a ‘lengthy’ spell out.

If it is a stress fracture then it means Neuer could miss six to eight weeks. The Bundesliga season concludes on 20 May while the German cup final, which Bayern may be competing in, takes place a week later. The Germany international’s season therefore is almost certainly over.

The 31-year-old was injured in extra time during the build-up to Cristiano Ronaldo’s third goal as Bayern lost 6-3 on aggregate.
