Alas, Catalan paper Sport reveal on Monday that Messi will not make El Clasico and the biggest club game in world football will be shorn of the Barcelona superstar.
According to Sport, Messi’s rehabilitation programme is behind schedule and he will not have enough strength in his knee to participate in El Clasico.
Messi was left out of the Argentina squad for key World Cup qualifiers against Brazil and Colombia and it appears he will miss some important games for club and country this month.
Since Messi has yet to start running, it seems likely that he will be out for another four weeks due to the knee ligament injury.
