Barcelona's Messi: Gago great for Real Madrid

Barcelona star Leo Messi admits he's had an up-and-down 2006.

Back in Argentina for the winter break, Messi isn't expected to return to Barca until February 1 as he continues his rehab from a foot injury.

"It's been an interesting year," said Messi, "one of ups and downs. The successes I enjoyed with Barcelona, the titles. But then I've also suffered two serious injuries."

"For 2007, I just want a year free of injury."

Asked about Real Madrid's capture of Boca Juniors midfielder and Argentina teammate Fernando Gago, Messi added: "He is a fantastic player. He will join Madrid in great form."
