Baptista outdoes Beckham in Real Madrid media demand

New Real Madrid striker Julio Baptista described his official presentation to the media as the "happiest day of my life".
 
Former Sevilla star Baptista said: "This is a magical moment for me. It is the happiest day of my life."

Real Madrid officials were bowled over by the media scrum Baptista's presentation created, with more journalists and photographers attending the conference than David Beckham's signing two years ago.

Over 200 members of the media attended the presentation, with a further 1,000 fans in the stands of the Santiago Bernabeu to welcome their new hero.

"We have not been mistaken," said Real president Florentino Perez. "Ever since we contracted Ronaldo and Beckham, we have not seen as much passion for a signing. Baptista has hooked people."

Baptista added: "I have the opportunity to be with the best club in the world and with the best players. I could not consider letting this escape."

"I want Madrid to win titles after two years of drought and that people see a great spectacle on the field."
