Atlético Want Derby Victory More - Hugo Sánchez

Hugo Sánchez is looking forward to the Madrid derby at the weekend and believes that Atlético are always more motivated that their neighbours for the games.

The current Mexico coach played for Atlético for four campaigns before moving across the Spanish capital to join el Real, where he spent seven years.

While Madrid are usually considered favourites to win the derby, Sánchez knows how determined Atlético will be to record a victory.

"In such intense games the team that makes the least mistakes will win. Both sides are very good at taking advantage of the chances that they have and it will be very interesting," he said.

"The derby is always intense. It is something that stays with you and while people talk about the other derbies, like Madrid against Barcelona, this one feels different.

"Maybe it is different for Atlético, for obvious reasons, they are more motivated because they want to beat their richer neighbours."

As his two former clubs prepare to meet on Sunday at Vicente Calderón, Sánchez was sitting firmly on the fence.

"I prefer not to bet on either side. I am sure that the team that deserves it will win. I would love to be there." he explained.

"I have great affection for both clubs, although the balance is seven seasons at Real Madrid to four with Atlético. I won more trophies with Madrid."

Sánchez was cautious in his praise for both Atlético and Madrid as he recognised that both teams are winning this term without playing spectacular football.

"Atlético are picking up wins and adding points, even if the play is not always brilliant, while Madrid are impsoing," he added.

"The numbers are there for everyone to see and I think that the attractive football will follow."
