Arsenal sound out Beckham about Real Madrid exit

Arsenal are preparing an ambitious offer to bring Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham back to England in the summer.
 
The Daily Mail says talks between intermediaries have already taken place and Beckham is aware of the interest from Highbury.

Manager Arsene Wenger said only last weekend that "if there was a chance to sign David Beckham, we would have to look at it". Now Arsenal have taken their interest further.

Beckham is seeking end-of-season talks with Real Madrid over a two-year extension to his current contract, which expires in 2007, and a potential offer from Arsenal can only strengthen his position.

The England captain wants a greater share of image rights - which runs against Real Madrid policy.

A source close to the player said other Premiership clubs had expressed an interest in bringing him back home.

Arsenal are attracted to the idea of recruiting Beckham on a number of levels. As well as adding quality and experience to a midfield in transition, there are obvious financial benefits.

During Beckham's first season in Madrid, Real's income soared from £127million to £156m - a 23 per cent rise and £4m more than the £25m transfer fee they paid to Manchester United for his signature.
