Arsenal's Vieira tells Real Madrid to forget about him

Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira has told Real Madrid to forget about trying to sign him over the summer.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is ready to try again for the French midfield ace, but Vieira says: "This summer will be a calm period for me."

He continued: "Once you have acquired a certain status, people are quick to say you are on the way down when you get injured."

"In my case there was the perfect excuse of my potential transfer to Real Madrid last year. People said I should have joined them as my mind was no longer on Arsenal."

"I knew I'd be a target. We'd won everything in England at Arsenal for 18 months and the moment we fell away a scapegoat had to be found. But I've broad shoulders."
