Arsenal's Henry criticises Ronaldo nomination for Player of the Year

Arsenal's fleet-footed striker Thierry Henry has queried Ronaldo's nomination for this year's European Player Of The Year.

The Real Madrid superstar is among the favourites to lift the award following a superb World Cup where he was the tournaments top scorer with eight goals.

However, Henry, a fellow nominee, has questioned the whole nomination process, and is strongly hoping that Ronaldo does not win the much-valued award.

"The awards must take into account what a player has done throughout the whole season and not what he has achieved in a single tournament," explained the former Juventus attacker.

"When I look at the outcomes I'm a bit confused. For example, I still don't understand why Raul has never been awarded. It's a bit weird."

"But for this year, I don't think Ronaldo has been the best player in Europe," he continued.

"When you see the goal scored by Zidane in the Champions League final it means something. Ballack was outstanding throughout the year and Roberto Carlos should be rewarded one day or the other."
