Arsenal rumbled over Real Madrid record

Arsenal have been told they're NOT the first English club to beat Real Madrid in Spain.
 
The chairman of North-West Counties League Second Division side Nelson says they were the first team to defeat the Spanish giants.

The Lancashire club's chairman Alan Pickering says Arsenal were 83 years too late because Nelson, beat Real 4-2 in Madrid on a tour in May 1923.

He said: "The result is in all the local newspaper records and in Real Madrid's official history. All I have heard since Tuesday night is that Arsenal were the first team to do it, but that's totally inaccurate."

"Santiago Bernabéu played against Nelson and was the president during the 1950s when they won all those European Cups. The story goes he dreamt up the idea of playing teams from all over Europe after losing to Nelson."
