Arsenal new boy Ozil did not want to fight for Real Madrid spot – Zidane

Zinedine Zidane has subtly hit out at departing Real Madrid star Mesut Ozil.

The German playmaker left the Santiago Bernabeu to join Arsenal for £42.4million on deadline day with his move attracting plenty of criticism from some still involved with the Spanish giants.

One of those was club great and current assistant Zidane who feels Ozil did not want to fight hard enough for his position with the summer arrivals of Isco and Gareth Bale.

"Ozil decided to leave," he told the club's official channel. "He is a good player who has given us so much so we wish him well."

"There are players who have responded with strength and will to fight for a place, but not everyone reacted the same."

"[Angel] Di Maria responded well and wanted to fight."
