Arsenal kick Real Madrid into action over Gilardino

Real Madrid general manager Arrigo Sacchi is pressing president Florentino Perez to bid for Parma striker Alberto Gilardino at the end of the season.
 
Sacchi is convinced Gilardino is on the verge of becoming a major world star and despite his 22 years would comfortably fit into Real's team structure.

The Parma striker has already agreed terms with AC Milan for next season, but his stunning form has pushed up his price-tag from £15 million to now £18 million.

Milan have baulked at paying the fee, which has opened the door to interested rivals, including Arsenal.

Sacchi, who was Parma football director before moving to Real, is still in contact with his former club and is aware that Arsenal have the financial backing to match Parma's valuation.

The Italian has told Perez there is no time to lose and is urging his president to make official Real Madrid's interest in Gilardino.
