Ajax Turn To Valencia's Joaquin
The Dutch giants are set to test Valencia's mettle with a bid for their flying winger
Reports from Spain suggest that Eriedivisie side Ajax are considering making an offer for Valencia winger Joaquin, and the Spanish side could be set to listen to offers for the former Real Betis man.
Valencia’s current financial predicament is well documented, with a whole host of first team players such as David Villa, David Silva, and Carlos Marchena set to be sold to balance the books at the Mestalla.
Villa has been the subject of intense speculation and a move to either Barcelona or Real Madrid looks the most likely, while Marchena is on Manchester City's radar.
Marca reports that newly appointed Ajax coach Martin Jol is an admirer of the Spanish international Joaquin, who joined Valencia from Real Betis in 2006 for a fee of €15m and has made over 100 appearance for Los Che.
It is thought that the cash-strapped side would look to recoup what they shelled out for the 27-year old, and this assessment may be too excessive for the Dutch side’s budget.
Joaquin is contracted until 2012 and had attracted the interest of Italian side Juventus earlier in the season, as Valencia got off to their best-ever Primera Division start under Unai Emery.
At that time Emery was desperate to hang onto the winger, but he may not have a say in whether the player can be retained, if the club can garner an appropriate level of revenue to secure his transfer.
