Agent of Real Madrid's Owen set for Man Utd talks

The agent of Real Madrid striker Michael Owen is set for talks with Manchester United over the next 48 hours.
 
The Mirror says Owen's agent Tony Stephens is understood to be scheduled to hold talks with United in a bid to set up a move to Old Trafford.

A Real insider said last night: "The decision has been made and the fee has been set. Now it is up to other clubs to come to us."

The England star is keen on linking up with Wayne Rooney under Sir Alex Ferguson, and moving back to his home in Cheshire.

A United offer of around £12m is expected to be enough to land the 25-year-old. But they may be forced to go higher in the face of Newcastle's desire to take Owen to Tyneside.

Toon boss Graeme Souness said: "Michael Owen is the sort of player that I want Newcastle to be linked with and the sort of player we have to be interested in."

"Every club wants to have a striker who can get 20 goals a season every season and there aren't many of them about."

"Owen, Mark Viduka and Nicolas Anelka are those sort of players."
