Agent: Man Utd, Real Madrid were both in for Edmilson

The agent of Lyon sweeper Edmilson has revealed Manchester United sounded out the Brazilian over the summer.

The defender's agent, Jose Fuentes, also confirmed Real Madrid and several Italian clubs had enquired about the World Cup winner.

He said, "Edmilson did indeed meet Jorge Valdano some time ago in Madrid."

"The deal was not settled, and the Madrid club preferred to take all possible steps to sign Ronaldo."

"As for the Italian clubs, they have financial trouble today which explains their discretion in the transfer market."

"About Manchester United, they indeed looked for a central defender but they chose to bet on Rio Ferdinand."
