Adriano almost impossible to stop says Werder coach

Werder Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf was left wondering how Inter Milan striker Adriano can be stopped after the Brazilian struck both goals in the German champions' 2-0 defeat in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Werder were forced to play with 10 men from only the fifth minute after French defender Valerien Ismael was sent off for a "professional foul" inside the area on Adriano in the Group G match.

Although Christian Vieri missed that spot kick, Adriano was brought down for another penalty which he himself converted in the 34th minute and then the Brazilian blasted home Inter's second a minute from the end of the game.

"After the sending off it was always going to be difficult for us but I was really pleased with the way the players reacted and stuck at their task," Schaaf told a news conference.

"Inter deserved to win and were always dangerous when Adriano got into a one-on-one situation. He is incredibly strong and it is very difficult to mark him."

"It is almost impossible to keep him quiet for 90 minutes."

Inter coach Roberto Mancini was pleased with his team's performance but felt they should have wrapped the game up long before Adriano's second strike.

"We started well and obviously the red card helped us but we created that situation and we created many more chances. It is a strange game sometimes and we had so many opportunities to end the game but I suppose we will have to be more precise next time," he said.

While Adriano made it six goals in four competitive games this season for Inter it was another disappointing night for his strike partner Vieri who as well as failing to convert the penalty also wasted some excellent chances.

"It's a bit like that at the moment for Bobo," said Mancini. "He had two or three very good chances but he was unlucky. It happens sometimes to strikers."

"Maybe when he has a bad game then he will get a goal and that will change it all."

Mancini was particularly pleased with the performance of Dutch winger Andy van der Meyde, who after failing to impress in his first season at Inter, looked back to his best on Tuesday.

"He has looked in really good form in training and he was excellent tonight. He is a player with extraordinary qualities," said Mancini.
