500,000 HKdollar bonus for Hong Kong to beat Real Madrid

A Hong Kong bakery has promised to cook up a 500,000 Hong Kong dollar (64,184 US) bonus for the city's footballers if they can defeat Spanish giants Real Madrid next week, a report said Wednesday.

Johnny Tang, chairman of Taipan Snowy Mooncake company, the sponsors of the Hong Kong-China XI which will tackle Real on August 8, has declined to reveal the sum paid by his firm to secure the sponsorship contract.

However his bakery has promised the home team 500,000 dollars if they pull off a win against the star-studded Real Madrid team.

A draw against the nine-time European champions will earn Hong Kong 250,000 dollars while each goal will net the home side 100,000 dollars, according to Tang.

Hong Kong were trounced 6-0 by English premier league giants Liverpool on Sunday.

Meanwhile, hundreds of passionate Real Madrid fans have continued to queue for tickets to watch their idols, days before the tickets are due to go on sale on Friday.

Organisers of the match are charging between 500 Hong Kong dollars (64 US) and 1,500 dollars for the 20,000 tickets that will be made available to the public to cover the appearance costs of luring the Spanish club to the city.

Hong Kong officials have not released details on the appearance fee, but reports have placed the figure at 20 million Hong Kong dollars.
