Ronaldo rescues Real Madrid against Sociedad
Real Madrid kept the pressure on Barcelona after a hard fought 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad.
The Galacticos were really made to work by Sociedad, who had chances in either half but could not turn possession into goals.
It looked as though the visitors would have to settle for a draw before Ronaldo burst through with just seven minutes remaining, rounded the 'keeper before casually side-footing the ball into an unguarded net.
Real made sure of the points when Ronaldo grabbed his second in injury-time, cheekily back-heeling Guti's pass into the net after initially stumbling on the ball.
The win means Barcelona's lead at the top is now just three points, though the Catalan giants do have a game in hand.
"We wore them down," declared Real Madrid coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo afterwards. "They stayed with us for an hour, but the players worked for the full 90 minutes and deserved the rewards that came."
"They had more possession, but did not know how to use it."
"Now it is up to Barcelona to win. If they win all their games, the title is theirs. But we will keep the pressure on."
