Real Madrid 4–0 Celta de Vigo

Real Madrid took another step towards claiming the La Liga title for themselves as they defeated Celta Vigo 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday night.

Two own goals from the visitors, sandwiched between strikes from Vinicius Jr. and Arda Guler, ensured all three points for Carlo Ancelotti’s men on the night.

Real Madrid now have a seven-point lead over second-placed Girona and are eight clear of Barcelona in third, with ten games left to be played in the season.

Vinicius Jr. was once again on target for Real Madrid and highlighted the team’s home form as a major factor, while speaking to RMTV after the match, saying:

"We got off to a very good start, pressing from the beginning. That’s what makes the difference, when we press the fans come with us and it’s very difficult to beat us at home."

Real Madrid have won 15 of the 18 matches that they have played at the Santiago Bernabeu this season and the Brazilian stressed that playing with the fans support behind them makes a lot of difference.

"Playing at home with the fans makes a difference. We have to get the fans behind us from the start in every game. When they come with us, the opposition know that it’s very difficult," he remarked.

On his own good run of form in recent matches, the 23-year-old said: "I’m very happy, trying to be my best. The best part of the season is coming up, the good games, and I want to keep going like this. Hopefully staying clear of injuries, which have hampered me a bit this season. I’m doing well."

Discussing the changes he has made in his game this season, Vinicius added: "I’m trying to help as much as I can, changing my game. I’m unstoppable, because when I’m not playing well as a winger I go central and the opponents don’t know how to defend against me."

On the team’s objectives for the rest of the campaign, he added: "We’re approaching it as we’ve been doing from the start, eager to win everything that’s remaining in order to make it a great season. The fans deserve everything."

Lucas Vazquez got a rare start last night against Celta Vigo with Dani Carvajal being given a rest by the manager. And the veteran right-back put in a good performance, especially in the first half when he was a regular attacking outlet.

"It was a very good performance from us. We got off to a great start and stepped up to win the game. The team did more than enough to get the three points," said Vazquez after the game.

"The most difficult thing in this type of match is to get the first goal. If you don’t manage to score the first goal as the minutes go by, doubts start to creep in, but the team played very well today. We created chances, through the middle, out wide, and from set pieces. It was a very complete performance."

Real Madrid scored yet another goal from a corner-kick last night, taking the tally for the season to nine. Discussing that element of the team’s performance, the right-back said:

"We’re doing very well and we’re also getting that bit of luck that we need sometimes. We’re happy with that, because it’s another area that we bring to the game to help score goals."

It was Antonio Rudiger whose header from the corner led to the own goal to make it 2-0. The German was also immense in defence and earned praise from Vazquez.

"He is having an amazing season. There aren’t many players in the world better than him defensively. He’s got a lot of presence and a lot of character and he’s also contributing at set-pieces,” the Spaniard stated.

On his personal form, Vazquez said: “I’m happy to play and to be able to help the team. I’m really enjoying it, every time I go out I try to do my best. I’m really happy."

Finally, Vazquez also spoke highly of Arda Guler who scored his first goal for Real Madrid, saying: “It’s fantastic news for Arda. Getting that first goal is very important to get that out of the way. We’re all really pleased for him.

"He’s a young lad who’s had a tough time because of injuries and he’s never let his head drop. He’s worked hard and here he is, scoring his first goal. Let’s hope it’s the first of many."
