Gareth Bale on target as Real beat Leganés

Gareth Bale scored an acrobatic effort as Real Madrid beat Leganes 2-1 in La Liga.

The Welshman, who did not feature in the 2-1 win over Bayern in the Champions League semi-final first leg in midweek, gave his chances of playing in the second leg a boost when he scored after Karim Benzema’s shot was deflected into the air in the eighth minute.

Borja Mayoral scored on the stroke of half-time following total confusion at the Bernabeu when the referee re-started play following the Spaniard’s finish, for an infringement, only to then award the goal.

Darko Brasanac got an equaliser for the home team with 35 minutes to play, but they could not snatch a draw.

Real remain third with 71 points, still 12 adrift of Barcelona.
