Real Madrid sauntered past bitter rivals Atletico Madrid to go four points clear at the top of La Liga after Cristiano Ronaldo fired the 39th hat-trick of his glittering career.

The Portuguese's deflected free-kick wrong-footed goalkeeper Jan Oblak and handed Real a 23rd minute lead.

Ronaldo then added two more in the second-half, the first from 12 yards after he was fouled in the penalty area, before converting Gareth Bale's cross from close range to complete a clincal win for Zinedine Zidane's side.
