Ronaldo benched as Torres helps Atletico to famous Copa win over Real Madrid

Fernando Torres made a winning return with Atletico Madrid as they defeated Real Madrid 2-0 in the first leg of their last-16 tie in the Copa del Rey.

A crowd of 46,800 saw the former Liverpool and Chelsea striker return to the club where he began his career.

A penalty from Atletico's Raul Garcia, after he had been fouled, and Jose Maria Gimenez's header sealed the win.

Torres was quiet on the night and was replaced after 59 minutes as the Spanish champs beat the European champions.

Real coach Carlo Ancelotti left Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench until the 83rd minute.
