Real Madrid Players Vow To Fight On After Shock Valencia Loss
Real Madrid lost 3-0 to Valencia this weekend, a result which could see them officially hand over their Primera Division crown should Barcelona beat Villarreal on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters after the match, a despondent Marcelo said, "Now we must rest and think about the next game.
"Until it is mathematically impossible to win the league, we must keep fighting, for the fans, ourselves, and our families."
The Brazilian then analysed the match in further detail, continuing, "We tried to win the game, but things did not go our way.
"Also, Valencia were fantastic. It is a day to forget."
Gonzalo Higuain, meanwhile, was similarly forlorn, saying, "We tried our best but could not get any points."
"Now we must defend the shirt of Real Madrid with pride in the three remaining games."
The Argentine then spoke of the disappointment of the last two weeks after their fantastic run, continuing, "It is hard to see the results of that run, because in the end they [Barcelona] have a large margin from us."
Finally, Christoph Metzelder offered similar sentiments, saying, "We were poor, but we have to protect the image of the club in the games that remain."
When asked about his future, Metzelder confirmed that he intended to see out the remaining year on his contract and continue playing for the "best club in the world".
