Fulham held Spanish giants Real Madrid to a goalless draw at Irdning in Austria, with Franck Queudrue making his Cottagers bow.
Michael Brown had Fulham's first chance when he drew a save from Iker Casillas in the sixth minute, but Raul should have done better with a volley shortly afterwards.
Julio Baptista hit the crossbar with a 12th-minute shot but Fulham came equally close when Collins John's header struck the post from Liam Rosenior's cross just before the half-hour.
Another new recruit, Jimmy Bullard, featured from the start, while England defender Jonathan Woodgate was included in Real's starting line-up.
One concern for new Real coach Fabio Capello was an injury to fellow Italian Antonio Cassano, who had to be carried off on a stretcher after a challenge from Papa Bouba Diop.
There was no Ruud van Nistelrooy in the Madrid side, a day after completing his move from Manchester United, while David Beckham and Ronaldo were also absent.
Fulham boss Chris Coleman declared his delight at holding Madrid over 90 minutes.
"Bearing in mind we were playing against one of the giants of Europe, it was a tough game, but in the end we had the better chances and we could have come away with the win," said Coleman on www.fulhamfc.com.
"This was our fourth pre-season game so we had to up the pace, that's why we wanted to be up against a tough team. I was delighted with the guys, it was a good display and we're going in the right direction."
"It was a clean sheet and I was happy with the way we defended. When you're playing against a team that likes to keep the ball for long periods, you have to be a bit patient, and we were. Overall it was a good run out for us."
The Cottagers may be three weeks away from the start of the season, but Coleman is already glad to see his team hitting their stride, and he took particular satisfaction in Queudrue's display.
"Franck showed a real bit of class," said Coleman. "He's got a good presence on the pitch; he talks very well and knows the game so I think he's going to be a tremendous signing for us."
