Real Madrid and Arsenal have had a lot in common this season.
They are facing each other in the men's Champions League quarterfinals. They also did so in the women's Champions League.
The other thing that they have in common is the lack of availability for so many of their players. They have faced a lot of injuries too, and the latest one coming on Tuesday night, when they beat Fulham 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium.
Gabriel Magalhaes is one of Arsenal's most important players, and he got injured against Fulham during the win. He is now a major doubt for Arsenal. Jurrien Timber got injured in the same match.
Arsenal are already missing Riccardo Calafiori and Ben White in defense, with Gabriel and Jurrien Timber joining the list of absentees.
Of course, Real Madrid have their fair share of injuries as well, but it does slightly help Los Blancos that such an important Arsenal player may not be able to play against them.
Arsenal pride themselves on their defense and set-pieces, and Gabriel is a huge part of both of them. He is brilliant in the air and can defend very well, and Arsenal could now miss his services for the next few weeks.
It is not yet confirmed whether Gabriel would miss both legs, or even one, but it is going to be a huge loss to recover from, especially in Arsenal's biggest match of the season.
Arsenal's backup option after all the injuries is Jakub Kiwior, who is a solid option, but nowhere near Gabriel's quality.
If both Timber and Gabriel are to the match, that would force Mikel Arteta to field Thomas Partey at right-back and Kiwior as a central defender, which would not only leave them to problems in defense, but they could also lose what Partey provides in midfield.
It remains to be seen what happens to these two players, as there has been no update from Arsenal about the injuries so far.
