Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has received a “big offer” to leave the club's dugout according to AS, which cited anonymous sources.
‘Carletto’ is an AS Roma legend because of the spell he spent there in the Italian capital from 1979 to 1987.
Making 227 appearances for the Giallorossi while winning four Coppa Italias and the league amid a run to the 1984 European Cup final, Ancelotti then moved on to AC Milan where continental glory and further success in Italy followed.
Despite being most closely associated with Milan in his homeland, Ancelotti has continued to speak affectionately of Roma and its city.
He has previously said he would “really like to” oversee the first team as manager one day. And as recent as December, he noted that “there is a lot of talk” about him doing so.
"Current head coach Claudio]Ranieri is a friend and he is doing very well, I am happy. I have a great relationship with Roma, very good memories, but there is a long way to go from words to deeds."
"At the moment, I’m fine here and I’m not thinking about my future. I still have a two-year contract, but contracts can be broken or extended," Ancelotti noted.
According to AS, the Friedkins that own Roma are personally trying to convince Ancelotti to switch allegiances with a “big offer” and have him lead their “financially and sportingly” ambitious project at the Stadio Olimpico.
As things stand, though, Ancelotti remains adamant on seeing out his contract - which expires in mid-2026 - or even re-elected President Florentino Perez’s mandate as he communicated last month.
Onda Cero reported that Ancelotti had decided to leave at the end of the season, but the manager soon put that claim to bed in a press conference that followed the news breaking.
Ancelotti doesn’t rule out retiring at the Bernabeu either, while there also might be the chance to venture into the international side of the game and manage five-time World Cup winner Br azil after a failed attempt to lure him from the CBF before current tactician Dorival Junior took over the reins.
At the same time, rumors continue to swirl about Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso already being lined up as a replacement for the Champions League’s most successful coach of all time as soon the summer.
