Sevilla looked as though they might pay the price for their celebrations after their UEFA Cup victory on Wednesday when they fell behind to a Rodolfo Bodipo volley 18 minutes from time.
But the Andalucians produced a late surge to grab three vital points. Br azilian midfielder Renato headed in from a free kick and leading striker Frederic Kanoute scored his 20th of the season when he steered into the open net six minutes from time.

Espanyol got off to an encouraging start when Ferran Corominas put them in front after four minutes, but they were then overrun by Bernd Schuster's men.
Francisco Casquero steered in unopposed four minutes later and midfielder Manu del Moral made it 2-1 just before halftime when he dinked the ball over keeper Carlos Kameni.
It was one-way traffic after the break, centre back Ruben Pulido heading in from a corner, Dani Guiza scoring with a cool lob and Del Moral claiming his second with a spectacular overhead kick 19 minutes from time.
LEVANTE 1 OSASUNA 4
Things started to go wrong for Levante when keeper Jose Molina was sent off after just five minutes for handling outside the area when saving a shot from Roberto Soldado.
Osasuna were quick to take advantage, Soldado sending a looping header into the top corner after a free kick on 18 minutes and then helping himself to a second on the half hour.
Inaki Descarga pulled one back for Levante, but midfielder Raul Garcia volleyed in to make it 3-1 and Soldado completed his hat-trick with a spectacular effort when he scored from inside his own half to assure Osasuna of their first win in eight.
REAL SOCIEDAD 3 CELTA VIGO 1
Celta remain in deep trouble after slumping to their fifth defeat in a row despite taking the lead when Argentine winger Gustavo Lopez scored direct from a corner on 20 minutes.
Sociedad turned the tables on the Galicians at the start of the second half, centre forward Darko Kovacevic levelling within 25 seconds of the restart and Br azilian winger Savio making it 2-1 five minutes later.
Midfielder Aitor Lopez Rekarte made sure of a win that boosted Sociedad's hopes of survival when he chipped in after keeper Esteban had tried to head clear outside the area.
RECREATIVO HUELVA 2 REAL MADRID 3
Another last-gasp win for Real -- this time courtesy of an injury-time strike from Roberto Carlos -- that kept them top of the table with three games to go.
Real looked to be well in control after an early headed goal from Robinho and a penalty from Ruud van Nistelrooy put them 2-0 up nine minutes into the second half.
Recre hit back with a spot kick from Jesus Vazquez and then drew level when live-wire striker Ikechukwu Uche headed in from a corner four minutes from time, but Real never threw in the towel and Roberto Carlos earned them a vital victory.
VILLARREAL 2 RACING SANTANDER 1
Villarreal earned their fifth win in a row thanks to a first-half strike from Italian midfielder Alessio Tacchinardi and a controversial goal from Cani who steered home after keeper Tono was felled by Guillermo Franco in the area.
Midfielder Felipe Melo pulled one back for Racing when he volleyed in after a fine cross midway through the second half.

REAL BETIS 1 GIMNASTIC 1
Betis looked to be heading for defeat when striker Javier Portillo gave Gimnastic the lead from the penalty spot in the 89th minute after Ariza Makukula went down in the area and Swiss midfielder Johann Vogel was sent off for his protests.
But forward Xisco equalised with a diving header deep into injury time to earn the Andalucians a priceless point against Gimnastic, who are already resigned to relegation.
REAL MALLORCA 0 VALENCIA 1
Valencia kept alive their slim hopes of winning the title thanks to a late strike from midfielder Joaquin.
The winger swept a well-struck shot low into the corner after Jorge Lopez had prised open the Mallorca defence with a clever back heel a minute from time to break the islanders' seven-match winning streak at Son Moix.
REAL ZARAGOZA 4 ATHLETIC BILBAO 3
An extraordinary game where Zaragoza looked as though they would run out easy winners after storming into a 4-1 lead at the break.
Zaragoza went 2-0 up after 19 minutes thanks to goals from leading striker Diego Milito and defender Carlos Diogo.
Bilbao striker Aritz Aduriz pulled one back on 35 minutes, but Zaragoza hit two more before the break through striker Sergio Garcia and an own goal from defender Ander Murillo.
Aduriz continued his lone bid to stage a comeback when he scored from the penalty spot and completed his hat-trick with a header but it was not enough to prevent a costly defeat.
