It was January 2020 when Real Madrid signed Reinier Jesus from Flamengo, spending €30 million on his arrival.
Three and a half years later, the 21-year-old attacking midfielder is yet to make his debut for the Merengues.
Given that the non-EU spots in the squad had been occupied, Reinier was loaned out to Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2020. He spent two years in Germany but did little of note, struggling for game-time with the Black and Yellows.
Upon returning to Real Madrid last summer, Reinier again left on loan, this time signing for Girona. Once again, game-time was difficult to come by for the 21-year-old Br azilian ace, as he was bogged down by injuries.
The youngster made 18 appearances for the Catalan outfit, scoring two goals and assisting one more.
With his loan spell expiring, Reinier is back at Real Madrid and has started training with the rest of the squad since Monday when the pre-season camp started.
However, according to AS, despite the 21-year-old training under the orders of Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid want to loan him out once again this summer and Girona are strongly interested in acquiring his services yet again.
As things stand, there is simply no space in the Real Madrid squad for Reinier, especially with the club signing Jude Bellingham and Arda Guler while Brahim Diaz is also back from loan and reintegrated into the squad.
Furthermore, the club feel that the 21-year-old has not shown enough in his loan spells to warrant a space in the squad. As such, Los Blancos wish to loan him out again and a return to Girona could be on the cards as the Catalans are strongly interested in his services.
