Kylian Mbappe was forced off with a facial injury during France vs Austria.
Kylian Mbappe has broken his silence after suffering a horror injury during France vs Austria.
On Monday night, Didier Deschamps’ men got their Euro 2024 campaign off to the perfect start after they got the better of Austria at the Merkur Spiel-Arena.
An own goal from Maximilian Wober in the 38th minute was enough to seal a 1-0 win for France.
However, France’s opening victory was marred by an injury suffered by Mbappe in the closing stages of the match.
The Real Madrid star went up for a header and collided with Austrian defender Kevin Danso, leaving him bleeding from the nose.
Mbappe was replaced by Olivier Giroud as he walked off holding his nose.
After the match, it was suspected that Mbappe had suffered a broken nose. Taking to social media, the 25-year-old wrote: “Any ideas for masks?”
Speaking to French media outlet TF1 after the match, Deschamps said: "“Yes, Kylian Mbappe has probably broken his nose."
"Apparently the nose is not good at all. So we’ll see. It’s obviously the negative point of the evening. Even if it’s just his nose it’s annoying for us."
French journalist Julien Laurens then gave an encouraging update as he wrote on social media: “ Mbappé update: NO operation needed. He left the hospital in Düsseldorf at 1am after some positive news and diagnosis on his nose.
"Be hoping to play in Friday against the Netherlands with a mask. A decision will be made close to the game."
France are set to take on the Netherlands at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig on Friday Night.
