According to AS.com, Leonardo Spinazzola’s agent met Real Madrid representatives with the Merengues preparing a swap deal to sign the Italy international.
Spinazzola, a former Atalanta and Juventus full-back, is Italy’s starting left-back at the Euros.
According to the Spanish outlet, Real Madrid have set their sights on the 28-year-old who was named MVP in the opening game of the European Championships last week.
His agent Davide Lippi has reportedly met Luis Campos and his right-hand man Ludovic Fattizzo in South France. Campos is the former sporting director of Lille and was meeting Lippi on behalf of Real Madrid.
The Merengues are reportedly preparing a swap deal involving Borja Mayoral who joined Roma on a two-year loan in 2020.
The agreement came with a €20m obligation to buy, but Real Madrid would prefer to get Spinazzola instead.
Roma could have made Borja Mayoral’s move permanent at the end of the 2020-21 campaign but failed to activate their clause.
Real Madrid are on the lookout for a new left-back as they want to offload Marcelo to reduce their wage bill.
Spinazzola joined Roma from Juventus in 2019 in a player-plus-cash swap deal with Luca Pellegrini.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reports Roma have denied that they have received an offer for the Italian full-back but would consider it if it comes. However, they are not considering a swap deal between Spinazzola and Borja Mayoral who will remain on loan at the club for another season.
