While it is one thing that Real Madrid are actively pursuing a centre-back owing to injuries to Eder Militao and David Alaba, they are also keenly observing market movements with regard to a right-back.
n the context, if a report from AS is to be believed, the team from the Spanish capital is currently monitoring Juanlu Sanchez of Sevilla, who happens to share a similar profile to his teammate and idol, Jesus Navas.
Judging by the look of things, it might seem that Real Madrid are perfectly covered in the right-back area and it is, in fact, the left-back spot that needs reinforcing. A deeper look, however, portrays a troubling picture.
Dani Carvajal, at 31 years of age, is not getting any younger while a certain Lucas Vazquez sees his contract running out at the end of the season, although there is a possibility that it could be extended.
Now, Madrid were also contemplating the idea of signing Chelsea captain Recee James, but given his history of injuries, the England international remains a hit-and-miss within the club.
As far as Juanlu is concerned, Madrid’s idea is to bring him in the summer for a fair price. They hope he can develop as a backup for Carvajal and potentially become the successor in the future.
However, there’s a problem with the price because the player recently renewed his contract with Sevilla until 2026, and now there’s a termination clause of €20 million. Madrid are not willing to pay that much, and Sevilla is not willing to lower the price, making the negotiation difficult.
