Real Madrid shot-stopper Keylor Navas is frustrated after spending hours on the bench and has asked the club to let him go in the January transfer window.
Real Madrid shot-stopper Keylor Navas wants to leave the club in January, Bleacher Report has claimed. The Costa Rican international has made only 2 La Liga appearances in 14 matches this season and has also been left out of the UEFA Champions League matches by Santiago Solari. As a result, the Copa del Rey fixtures continue to be his only matches.
Thibaut Courtois has been preferred to the 31-year-old goalkeeper after signing from Chelsea this summer. The Belgium international was the best goalkeeper in the FIFA World Cup earlier this year and also earned the highest goalkeeper’s ranking on this year’s Ballon d’Or podium ahead of the likes of Navas, De Gea, Ter Stegen and Oblak.
The fact that Courtois has conceded nearly 20 goals in just 12 games is unsettling but it does not look like Keylor Navas will be drafted in for the former Atletico Madrid goalie anytime soon, in spite of there being no apparent reason justifying why Keylor is being dropped and Courtois was unnecessarily signed.
Keylor Navas checked in from UD Levante back in 2014 and has been extremely important for Los Blancos. The goalkeeper has been of paramount priority to them as they have won 3 UEFA Champions League titles and a La Liga over the course of the last three seasons in addition to numerous another trophies.
It does feel like an injustice is being done to Keylor Navas by bringing in Thibaut Courtois who is turning out to be below expectations. But given that the Belgian has just checked in from Chelsea and there remains realistically no chance of him being dethroned of his first choice role, the best will be for Navas to move on to another pasture.
Real Madrid has backup goalkeeper Kiko Casilla who has ample experience but is the third choice now, behind Courtois and Navas. Luca Zidane is also part of the Real Madrid setup and has been named in the squad on several occasions.
