The long-running Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid transfer saga might finally come to an end in the summer.
The French World Cup winner's current deal with PSG is set to run out at the end of the campaign and with every passing day, his chances of extending feel more unlikely. And if he were to leave, Santiago Bernabeu does look like his most likely destination.
Mbappe has been linked with a move to Real Madrid since his days at AS Monaco. On several occasions, a transfer has seemed a possibility. But for one reason or the other, it has never materialised.
We have been in a similar situation a few years back, when Mbappe's contract was running out and he seemed destined to join Real Madrid. So much so that the Santiago Bernabeu crowd even applauded him when he played there. Yet, the Frenchman would go on to sign an extension, albeit a short one, with PSG.
One man who is expected to play a starring role if the Mbappe move does become a reality is Florentino Perez. And he seems to have a clear stance on the matter.
As reported by The Athletic, Perez feels that he has done everything possible to sign Mbappe. The Real Madrid president still hopes and believes he will accept. He has been “unusually closely” involved in the negotiations.
Since bringing Eden Hazard to the club in 2019, one could argue that Real Madrid have not made a Galactico signing. Mbappe would certainly fit the definition in every sense of the word.
He is the type of player who can be the face of the club and further enhance Real Madrid's global brand. On the other hand, a move to Santiago Bernabeu should help Mbappe's club career, which has stagnated a bit at PSG. as they have struggled to challenge for the Champions League.
