Real Madrid are no strangers to signing players from Chelsea.
Thibaut Courtois arrived from Stamford Bridge and has gone on to become one of the best goalkeepers in the world, if not the very best. Things did not go as well for Eden Hazard, who struggled badly during his four years at Santiago Bernabeu and retired recently. Antonio Rudiger has been inconsistent but is a starter right now. Kepa Arrizabalaga has been brought in on loan and is the regular between the posts.
It remains to be seen if Real Madrid end up signing Kepa on a permanent basis. The Spaniard has been pretty good for Los Blancos this season and pulled off some crucial saves.
Real Madrid have another Chelsea player on their radar though. Dani Carvajal’s time in the Spanish capital is expected to come to an end soon and it looks like Reece James is being viewed as a potential long-term replacement for the Spanish right-back.
As reported by Estadio Deportivo, Real Madrid would try to sign James for a figure ranging between €35 million and €40 million. What they are clear about is that they will make an effort.
Let’s see what the future holds. But to be honest, it feels unlikely that Chelsea would let their captain leave for that figure.
James is a superb right-back and has the potential to be the best in the world in his position. But at the same time, there are major concerns about his fitness.
James has been dealing with a series of injuries for quite some time now and if things continue like this, it might have long-term repercussions on the Englishman’s career. It remains to be seen if Real Madrid do end up making a move for the Chelsea captain in the future.
