Manchester City will reportedly be ready to fork out €80 million to sign Bayern Munich full-back Alphonso Davies, a target for Real Madrid.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Alphonso Davies is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Bayern Munich full-back is also a target for La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid. But the Premier League champions are ready to offer €80 million to sign the 23-year-old.
Alphonso Davies has gone from strength to strength since joining Bayern Munich from Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2019. What is remarkable about his progress is that he was a promising young winger when he arrived at the Allianz Arena. But he has worked hard to become one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga in the last half a decade.
The 23-year-old has turned out 179 times thus far for Bayern Munich, chipping in with nine goals and 28 assists. But the Bundesliga champions are in a spot of bother over the Canadian international’s long-term future as he has entered the final 18 months of his contract.
Such a situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Premier League bigwigs, like Manchester City, have shown interest in Alphonso Davies. In addition, he is a long-term target for La Liga giants Real Madrid.
Real Madrid’s interest in Davies is hardly surprising, considering Ferland Mendy has blown hot and cold in the last few seasons. In addition, Fran Garcia has only been good enough to be a backup option for Los Blancos. So, it behoves Real Madrid to invest in a left-back, with the Canadian international emerging as a viable target.
As for Manchester City, Pep Guardiola has operated without a left-back throughout this season. While he has Sergio Gomez in his squad, the former Barcelona manager does not trust the Spaniard. Alphonso Davies is thus an option worth considering, with Manchester City ready to pay €80 million to sign him.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid will not go beyond €50 million, leaving Manchester City in a better position. But considering Davies will be in the final year of his contract with Manchester City, Real Madrid’s fee cap is understandable.
