Real Madrid could be forced to enter into the market for a new goalkeeper this summer as Andriy Lunin is contemplating a possible departure.
The 25-year-old ace enjoyed a fine season in 2023/24, making the most of his chances during the absence of Thibaut Courtois. But with the Belgian returning, he is back to being the No. 2 at the Santiago Bernabeu.
As such, Lunin has set a condition for his stay at Real Madrid – to be a starter, which seems unlikely, making a transfer away very much likely.
Now, AS reports that Jorge Mendes, Andriy Lunin’s agent, will be meeting with officials to discuss the Ukrainian international’s future at Real Madrid.
If the 25-year-old shot-stopper ends up leaving the club, Mendes himself could propose possible options to replace him at the Santiago Bernabeu.
And, as per the report, one such option that the superagent could offer to the Merengues is FC Porto and Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa.
The 24-year-old custodian has been in the news for his special display for Portugal in the UEFA Euro 2024 Round of 16 clash against Slovenia – where he pulled off some stunning saves in the penalty shootout.
André Villas-Boas, the new president of FC Porto, stated at a recent event that they “had no intention of selling Diogo Costa”, but it seems that Mendes has other plans for the 24-year-old.
Real Madrid’s stance on such a move is unclear at this point, but they are looking at possible options to replace Lunin in case of his departure.
Chelsea outcast Kepa Arrizabalaga and RCD Espanyol’s Joan Garcia are touted as potential replacements.
