Manchester United are hoping to agree on a new deal with Portuguese defender Diogo Dalot.
A report from Football Insider claims that the Premier League giants are now close to a breakthrough as far as contract talks are concerned.
Apparently, talks with the 23-year-old’s representatives are progressing well and it remains to be seen whether the two parties can thrash out an agreement soon.
Real Madrid are reportedly keen on signing the Portuguese international as a long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal but Manchester United are confident they will be able to hold on to him.
The 23-year-old has a contract until the summer of 2024 and he earns around £25,000-a-week at Old Trafford. The Portuguese defender has established himself as a key starter for Erik ten Hag and it is fair to assume that Manchester United are likely to hand him a significant pay rise with the new deal.
The 23-year-old is a key player for Manchester United right now and it is unlikely that he will push for a move away from the club. Dalot needs to focus on his development with regular football right now and Ten Hag could be the ideal manager to nurture him.
The Portuguese international will have plenty of opportunities in the future to join top clubs like Real Madrid. Signing a new deal with the Red Devils would be ideal for the player’s development right now.
Meanwhile, Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka is in a similar situation with his contract expiring in 2024. However, the former Crystal Palace defender has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford and he could look to move on at the end of the season.
