Toni Kroos was not a fan of Bayern’s post-game banquets and games. At Real Madrid, he can just leave and go home!
Germany’s most charismatic player and Real Madrid’s veteran midfielder Toni Kroos recently gave an interesting insight into his ideal evening after a Champions League away game — like Real Madrid’s late 2-2 against Borussia Mönchengladbach or Bayern Munich’s 2-1 against Lokomotiv Moscow yesterday.
Talking about the difference between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich on the podcast "Einfach mal Luppen" (AZ), Kroos said, "Whatever the case is: we can travel home directly after the game. Things were different back then at Munich. It was always agonizing."
As we all know, Bayern Munich always holds a dinner for the players and club personnel who have traveled with the team. Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge usually addresses the team at the banquet, sometimes delivering notable speeches. From railing against the officiating in the 2017 elimination to Real Madrid to presenting Hansi Flick with a pen “for signing papers,” the Bayern banquet has provided some notable moments. It is tradition.
But Kroos would rather just go home. There’s “always a banquet on the agenda” at Bayern. But sometimes there were games "after which you just don’t feel like it. Honestly, I always found it a little irritating. So I’m very happy about how it’s managed here [with Real Madrid]," Kroos said. It’s “priceless to come home again quickly,” he concluded.
