Denis Cheryshev has returned to former club Villarreal after completing his move from Real Madrid.
The 25-year-old forward has signed a five-year deal at Villarreal after they agreed a fee, believed to be around £8m, with Madrid.
Cheryshev failed to establish himself as a first-team regular at the Santiago Bernabeu after rising through Madrid's youth system, impressing in their 'B' team.
A statement on Madrid's website read: "Real Madrid and Villarreal have agreed the transfer of the player Denis Cheryshev .
"The club wishes to thank him for his dedication and professionalism over the years and wish him luck in his new career."
Cheryshev was involved in controversy last season when he played for Madrid in their Copa Del Rey win over Cadiz.
It later emerged the Russia international should have been suspended, having been booked three times in the competition when on loan at Villarreal during the 2014-15 season, and Madrid were subsequently disqualified.
