The club aren't happy about him being targeted in Mallorca.
Real Madrid are outraged by the treatment that Vinicius Junior receives from opponents and referees. The club feel that challenges made on him have been firmer than they need to be, and referees aren't giving him the protection he needs. That was only highlighted in Los Blancos' 3-0 win away at Real Mallorca on Monday night.
Vinicius was on the receiving end of a particularly strong challenge from Pablo Maffeo in the 30th minute on Monday, but the two were battling all night. That first-half challenge, though, saw the defender's studs make contact with Vinicius' knee.
Jose Maria Sanchez Martinez, the referee on the night, didn't even give a foul. VAR didn't intervene either.
Los Blancos had been concerned by Sanchez Martinez's appointment for the game, as Vinicius has come in for rough treatment under his watch already this season.
On February 12, the Br azilian suffered away at Villarreal, with Raul Albiol and Dani Parejo both hitting him hard. Again, Sanchez Martinez did nothing and VAR failed to intervene.
The scenes in Palma were similar, all while the home fans booed and whistled the player. Vinicius didn't let it get to him though, and instead he doubled down and put in an impressive performance. Having scored the opening goal, he stared down the home crowd, danced and smiled.
Real Madrid are unhappy that Vinicius is not protected, and also that he is made out to be guilty of something. The club are worried that his style of play will lead to him being targeted further, or that he'll get a reputation for diving in response to the constant tough challenges.
