Real Madrid’s plans for the upcoming summer transfer window are revolutionary, to say the least.
Kylian Mbappe, Alphonso Davies and a new centre-back are the primary targets while there have been rumours of the club’s interest in Bernardo Silva.
SPORT now reveal another top Premier League star who is on Los Blancos’ radar for the upcoming summer and whose move would stun the football world – Bruno Guimaraes.
The Newcastle United star has attracted interest from across Europe after his stellar run with the Premier League side which began in the winter of the 2021-22 season.
This season, he has played 44 games for the Magpies, contributing four goals and eight assists from a deep-lying midfield position.
Further, he averages 1.6 key passes and completes two successful dribbles per game.
PSG, Arsenal and Manchester City are already in the running to sign the player from Newcastle this summer, and now, Real Madrid have the player on their agenda.
Guimaraes’ contract with the Magpies runs until the summer of 2028, giving potential suitors little leverage over transfer negotiations.
The player’s contract, however, boasts two clauses that potentially dictate his move away from Newcastle.
First, Guimaraes’ contract includes a release clause of £100 million (~€116 million), a valuation that is rich but not excessive for a player of his calibre.
The second pivotal clause in his deal is that the player could lose up to 20 per cent of his wages should Newcastle not qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
Considering that Eddie Howe’s side are currently in sixth place with 50 points, a staggering 16 points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, that looks unlikely with just six games to go.
The potential fall in salary, needless to say, could tempt Guimaraes to look for new pastures.
