Michel Salgado has revealed the excitement that he felt upon making his debut for Blackburn Rovers at the weekend, after he joined the club from Real Madrid during the summer.
The veteran defender was keen to try his luck in England and revelled in his first appearance for his new side at Ewood Park on Saturday afternoon.
Despite only going on for the last five minutes of the game, the former Spain international was delighted to have made his first appearance.
“I felt like a child on my first day,” Salgado was quoted as saying by The Lancashire Telegraph.
“I am almost 34 but it was really great for me, my first day in England playing in one of the best competitions in the world with Blackburn Rovers "
“I said when I came here that I wanted to enjoy the atmosphere of the stadiums in England and of the fans here at Ewood Park."
“It was a great day for me and it was a great day for the team "
"That is the most important, more important than me. We won 3-1 but I think we could have won by more.”
Salgado was full of praise for Blackburn midfielder David Dunn, who had praised the Spaniard's arrival at the club last week.
“I think we played well and David Dunn is a really top quality player " he continued. “He is the player who can give the break in the rhythm of the game."
"In England I think that is really important and Dunn is really important for Blackburn."
