Real Madrid clearly lack depth at this point in time but the club seem to be content with the options they do have and more signings are not expected to be made this summer.
Of course, that would leave a lot of supporters disappointed. But they cannot fault the start to the season that Carlo Ancelotti’s side have made, winning both league games in convincing fashion.
There are tougher tests ahead though and as the season progresses, their depth will be tested. Like it was last season and Ancelotti’s side struggled to deliver their best on a consistent basis after the World Cup break.
Despite the lack of depth, there are quite a few in the squad who are not expected to get much playing time. One of them is Alvaro Odriozola.
The Spaniard has not been able to break into Ancelotti’s plans. Thus, an exit this summer would have made sense for all parties. But it looks like Odriozola has other plans.
As reported by MARCA, Odriozola’s idea is to stay at Real Madrid, run out his contract and leave for free when his deal ends on June 30, 2024. Not even the interest of Real Sociedad has convinced him to depart.
Odriozola was signed from Real Sociedad back in 2018 with expectations that he would be competition to and long-term replacement for, Dani Carvajal. Things have not gone according to plan.
Odriozola has barely featured for Real Madrid and has spent a couple of seasons out on loan as well, at Bayern Munich and Fiorentina. Now 27 years of age, he is in the middle of his prime but spending most of his time sitting on the bench.
Under ideal circumstances, Odriozola would leave this summer in search of playing time. But it appears that he will look to stay another year and leave as a free agent.
