In recent years, when Real Madrid sell talented youngsters from their club, they make sure to insert a buyback clause in the deal or retain 50% of the player’s rights, so that they have some degree of control over the future.
The same strategy was applied this past summer as the Merengues bid goodbye to talented prospects such as Sergio Arribas and Carlos Dotor, among others.
A similar provision allowed Los Blancos to re-sign Fran Garcia from Rayo Vallecano for just €5 million and Real Madrid could make use of the same tactic to bring back another former player they sold a while ago.
Indeed, as per SPORT, Real Madrid are closely tracking the progress and development of Takefusa Kubo at Real Sociedad and could consider a move for him in the future.
Having signed Kubo back in the summer of 2019, Los Blancos constantly farmed him out on loan before parting ways with the Japanese winger permanently in 2022.
The Spanish capital club sold Kubo to Real Sociedad for a fee of €6 million but retained 50% rights of the 22-year-old.
Since signing for Sociedad, the Japanese international has grown into a vital cog in Imanol Alguacil’s side, racking up 12 goals and ten assists from 48 matches.
Kubo has been on fire in the new season, registering three goals and an assist in the first four La Liga games, and as such Real Madrid have been closely monitoring the 22-year-old’s progress.
As per the report, Sociedad have inserted a €60 million release clause in Kubo’s contract.
Considering that Real Madrid still own 50% of the winger’s rights, it would enable them to sign him for €30 million – an option that they are not ruling out at this point.
Kubo attracted interest from several clubs this past summer, including Napoli, but there was nothing concrete.
If he continues on the same upward trajectory, more suitors could line up, possibly including Real Madrid.
