After announcing the schedule for Kylian Mbappe’s presentation, Real Madrid have now officially confirmed the shirt number that the Frenchman will wear at the club.
The Merengues have announced that the 25-year-old free-transfer signing will be the club’s new No. 9 taking over from compatriot Karim Benzema.
Indeed, following Benzema’s exit in 2023, the No. 9 shirt was left vacant at Real Madrid and will now be worn by Mbappe in the 2024/25 season.
The Frenchman had his sights set on the No. 10 shirt but with Luka Modric continuing at the club, it was unavailable for him. As such, he will play with the No. 9 on his back in the upcoming campaign.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid also confirmed that a number of players have had their jersey numbers changed for the next season.
For starters, Federico Valverde will now don the No. 8 shirt that has become vacant following Toni Kroos’ retirement.
Meanwhile, Arda Guler, who wore No. 24 last season, will now take the No. 15 shirt that will be vacated by Valverde.
Eduardo Camavinga also gets a new number as he will be Real Madrid’s new #6, replacing departed club captain Nacho Fernandez.
Camavinga’s compatriot, Aurelien Tchouameni, also gets a new number with the midfielder moving to No. 14 from No. 18, which will now be worn by Jesus Vallejo, back from his loan spell.
